Land access to Vietnam is possible via China, Cambodia or Vietnam. Whilst there is good availability for flights to both Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, most of these route through Bangkok.

Vietnam is accessible, but you are going to have to do some work to get there. Air Asia will make it easy for you if you stop off in Bangkok first, flights between Bangkok and Hanoi go three times daily and should cost around £35 or 2400baht.

If you want to go direct, Qatar, Singapore, Lufthansa and KLM/China Airlines will all carry you to Ho Chi Minh, but there is a stop on the way.

It's worth the effort it takes to get to Vietnam. The Pacific coastline makes for wonderful beaches, Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and should be on everyone's 'must see' list and, as in Cambodia, the food experience is special.

Those preferring the South of Vietnam will find themselves arriving in Ho Chi Minh by air, from here you should find Phu Quoc and the Mekong Delta easily accessible.

The North has just as much to offer, Hanoi is the gateway to Halong and, crucially for many, is easier to access with more airlines plying the route.
