Burma is a travel destination that should be approached with some caution. The situation in the country is changeable but the UK Foreign Office updates their information regularly.

Border access, particularly from Thailand, can not be relied on and should be checked in advance. Currently, border crossings are possible at:

Tachilek (Burma Shan State) – Mae Sai (northern Thailand)

KawThoung (Burma Tanintharyi) – Ranong-Kawthoung (southern Thailand)

Muse (Burma Shan State) – Ruili (China border)

Tamu (Burma Chin State) – Morei (India border)

Travellers should be aware that they must leave Burma at the same point they enter and that travel within the country is restricted to main tourist areas without prior permission.

Air travel is possible, and at Flights Central, we can ticket flights to Burma. The usual route is through Bangkok and, although many airlines quote; China, China Eastern, Qatar and Singapore to name a few, the last leg into Rangoon (Yangon) will be a codeshare with a Thai Carrier such as Royal Thai or Nok.

Independant travellers should check availability with the airlines linked on this page.

Only 7500 UK passport holders visited Burma in 2006; it's clearly a challenging destination. For those with a need to go, or with a sense of adventure, Burma is viable.
